Life was a little silly in 2008. Employers eh? Anyway, time for a bit of a catch up on a few of the highlights. May saw me returning to Skye after many years absence.
I was on the island for a week, including four days of sea kayak coaching from Gordon Brown of skyakadventures - Highly recommended.
Gordon seems to have most of the kayaks and kit that you might ever want to try out! We of course got a little damp (!) even though the weather was sunny, the wind calm and the sea as flat as a pancake. At least the tidal races of Kyle Rhea proved to be a good place for having a play.
During the summer a small ferry plys backwards between the mainland and Skye. It's quite amazing to watch the angle it has to take to defeat the tidal flow within the narrows.
South of the narrows the Kyle opens out in to Sandaig Bay and further south is the entrance to Loch Nevis and then down towards Knoydart. All stunning scenery and an objective for another time.
